Let’s Talk About: Break-Ups!

As I have now started the ‘Let’s Talk About’ category on the blog, I have had a couple requests to do a post about break-ups. I have decided to do this post in the way I do most of them, in a letter!

Dear Newly Single Beauty,

Going through a break-up is one of the toughest things you can go through, especially when it’s somebody you thought was going to be your ‘forever’.

The biggest problem with break-ups is they are all different. Some break-ups may be because one of you is unfaithful, another may be because you realised that you were never actually in love or you have fallen out of love with each other. But, let me just tell you one thing, you get over it! Some break-ups take longer then other but trust me you eventually get over it and you stop thinking about that person who you though were your everything and realise that you deserve better or they really wasn’t meant to be.

At this moment in time all are your friends are keeping you company and keeping you distracted from thinking about this break-up but guess what it’s okay to have ‘me’ time. It’s okay to have a day to yourself where you do think about everything that’s happened. Everyone is telling you not to think about him/her but you may have to do that to get over it. Have a think, where did it all go wrong? Are they worth all the tears? Then when you have got all your over thinking out of the way, this is where you forget it all and go out with your friend. If you do decide to get drunk though, let your friend be in charge of your phone so there are no drunk texts or phone calls to the ex.

The best thing you can do at the moment, is unfollow them on all your social medias, you do not have to remove them but just set it so they do not come up on your news feed. This way you can not look at everything they are doing or worry about what they are doing! The most important thing of all, do not suggest to stay friends! This is just going to make your process of getting over them harder. Trust me, I have tried being friends with an ex and it lasted for a couple of days until I had to tell them that I couldn’t do it, it was too hard and I had to remove him from my life for a while. Now, we are able to text and ask each other how we are ad be civil with each other. It just takes time to over someone.

Lastly, do not post all the details of your break up over social media. This is just going to make you look bad and make them hate you, there is no reason for the rest of the world to read about your relationship. Yes change your Facebook status to single but leave it at that. If people want to know your business, it is up to you to tell them not for them to read it from all these status’s and depressing quotes. Just remember, we all react differently to break-up and what works for some may not work for others!

Much love,

A-xo

So so true, especially your suggestion of removing them from social media. My last breakup was roughly seven years ago. Luckily, my then-boyfriend wasn’t interested in social media, so I never had to worry about his content popping up on my feeds. I can’t imagine how tempting it would be to constantly wonder and have to resist the urge to check what an ex is up to online.

I’ve blocked them off everything so there’s no chance of contact – I’ve been unfortunate enough to have had bad experiences. It’s so much easier to move on when you don’t have to constantly see what they’re up to. First love was awful, but everything after was a bit easier

This is good. I agree that you need to minimize the social media connect or drop them all together. No sense in torturing yourself.
