Having to work 5 days a week whilst completing my first year with the Open University, I have found that I have needed to do things to help prevent myself getting stressed. I’m fortunate enough to be the type of person who doesn’t get stressed but thought that I may end up stressed whilst having to work and complete 4 assignments within one month. Five ways that I have found work best for me are:
This one is probably the most obvious out of the five and a lot of people already do. This doesn’t just mean run yourself a nice hot bath. IT means run yourself a nice hot bath, with a bath bomb (obviously from lush), put on a face mask, light a candle and have a glass of wine. If you really want it to work you have to make sure you go all out!
I was quite excited to see that it is now acceptable as an adult to walk into a shop and buy a colouring book. I used to love colouring when I was a child, so now I am able to pull out my mini colouring book and not be judged is the best feeling. I find colouring really relaxing and also find it really satisfying seeing a page turn from black and white to a beautiful mix of bright colours. If you haven’t already got one of these you need to go and buy one!
If you are finding work or studying stressful then go and dive yourself into a book. Choose a book that does not relate to work, school or university. This gives you a chance to dive into a completely different world and take your mind off everything.
A lot of people turn their noses up when I tell them to work out to prevent stress, but there is nothing better then getting into the gym, putting in your earphones and lifting some weights. Without knowing it those little bits of stress you have been building up are now being released on that leg press or treadmill.
The most important of all, PLAN! There is nothing worse then having a million different things on your mind that need to be done and not organise when to do it. I will be the first to admit I am the least organised person ever, but with a heavy study load the past couple of months I decided I need to plan out what I need to do. I was so excited when I found these weekly planners on ‘notonthehighstreet‘ that I couldn’t resist becoming more organised.
