Let’s Talk About: Instagram Themes

I will be the first to admit that I have tried a million different themes on my Instagram to make it look more attractive, but the truth is that this does not work for me! I remember when Instagram was first becoming known and you used to upload about 20 photos a day because you thought it was cool to, but in realitywe all regret it now. Now it seems that you will only gain followers and likes on Instagram if all your photos follow a theme.

Now don’t get me wrong, I think these bloggers and celebrities that can stick to the same theme throughout their whole Instagram are incredible, just for the pure fact that I have tried it and it failed miserably. The first time I wanted to start doing a theme was when it was really cool to have all your pictures black and white (a nice trend started by the one and only Harry Styles). Though this personally only worked for me for about a week, this being that it came to posting a picture that could not be turned black and white because the whole point was showing the colour of a new super cool nail varnish I had purchased. Realistically I could have just avoided posting the picture and not shown off this beautiful colour, but honestly I really wanted to show this colour to my friends and Instagram tends to be the place to do this easily. But this cute black and white theme didn’t even stay in place for Harry Styles.

I then went on to try and be one of those cool people who didn’t upload square images onto instagram, and actually added white borders onto all of my pictures to make it look cool (just like Taylor Hill). Now don’t get me wrong I think this looks amazing on other peoples instagram accounts but not on mine. It wasn’t until after I uploaded a few pictures that I realised you still need to edit the picture that has the border to make it look good as an overall theme. I don’t actually understand how people can edit pictures and place a border on it before adding it to instagram, this was just way too much effort for me and honestly just wasted my phone battery. My hat goes off to people that are able to do this for every picture they upload!

Not only do people make them black and white but also set the theme to the time of, Zoe Sugg is very well known for this as in the summer her pictures are very bright and summery then as we go into fall they have more autumn colours and fit to a whole new theme. I wish that this was the type of theme that I could stick to but unfortunately I am not able to dedicate myself to doing this and to be honest the longer I spend editing a photo the more I end up not liking it.

I’m not going to pretend that my Instagram is just unedited pictures that I post whenever, because in reality I do edit my pictures to make them look more attractive (this does not mean I use photoshop or change the way my face looks). But this means that every image is most likely to be edited differently and my Instagram as a whole is a bit of a mix and match, but that is the way I like it, also my way of editing is usually just changing the contrast because that is as high tech as I go. This shows that I do not see the world in black and white or every wall and work surface I own is white. My Instagram shows that everything photo I take is something different and I do not see the world the same as everybody else.

Let me know below, do you stick to one Instagram theme or do you just open the camera and upload it straight to Instagram?

I have never been able to stick to a theme for longer than a few days, it’s so hard! x

I wasn’t using a theme for a long time, but lately I’ve definitely been following a pink-purple theme. But, sometimes I look to other brands / celebs for inspo because I’ve learned that if it is gradual, you can definitely switch up your theme.

I recently deleted my entire insta feed because I was so annoyed with my messy structure!! But I am not really the person to stick to a proper theme either – I do think it looks beautiful on other people’s feed but I don’t know if I can actually do it haha.

I’ve really struggled to create an Instagram theme I can stick to and like. I’m not very good at editing photos and a lot of the time, I felt that didn’t help, with creating a theme. I tried the black and white style and the border style on my photos in the past but it never seemed to fit. I do still want to have a bit of theme on my Instagram so I’m going to keep trying but I want it to be original and not have it take me all day and use all my phone battery to complete. I want to be able to like my photos and enjoy posting them.
I really love your photos by the way!

I didn’t even realize there was such a thing as instagram theme! I guess I just post what I feel like, but I also think about “branding” my blog with nature and travel pictures. So in summary I guess I do have a theme, just not very strongly.

It’s so so difficult to stick to a theme! I’ve finally found something that I *can * actually do and you best believe I’m going to be sticking to it for a while. Like you, I honestly wish I could make my feed look as good as some bloggers’ – Maria J blogs is a really good example – but it’s just never going to happen. Although, I do use an app called Preview to help me plan what my feed will look like, so I know that the pictures won’t clash too much before I post (I don’t know if you’ve heard of it?). Another tip I’ve read is to create a separate private account and post your pictures there until you find an order that you like, but that seems like too much effort if I’m honest. xx
