Everybody is always talking about mental health but it’s not always easy to stop it, but here are 8 things to stop doing today that could help improve it.
Unfortunately, we all have bad habits and half the time we don’t even realise. Breaking a habit is very hard to do but it is doable! So try out some of these things and see how they work for you!
Judging Other People
This is one of the worst things you can do. I always walk around worried about what other people are thinking about me and wondering if these things are negative. But, if I am going to sit there and judge people- whether or not I know them- then I cannot expect people not to judge me. I don’t know why we judge people, maybe we are jealous of them or just insecure about ourselves. Is it the right thing to do when you sit there and judge people you do not know anything about?
Thinking About The Past
I am very guilty of this. There are many times within the day when I am reminded of something that happened in the past. Whether it was last week or 5 years ago. I then end up spending ages thinking about ‘what if I did something different?’ ‘what if I never spoke to those people?’ If we continue to hold onto the past we are never going to move forward in the future. We are always going to think about ‘what could have happened’ instead of ‘what will happen’.
Focusing On The Future
This is hard considering I have just told you to think more about the future than the past. The only difference being, we spend a lot of time thinking about the future without actually thinking about what we need to do to get there. It’s great to have goals for the future but how are you ever going to achieve these goals if your not going to focus on the present? There are many steps that need to be taken to achieve your goals but you lose site of those when you do not focus on the now. Remember, we are living now. Not tomorrow, not next week but now! This is where we need to put our focus and attention.
This one is very important, when we are faced with a problem or challenged we tend to run away. We don’t want to face them and end up making the situations worse. These problems end up circulating in your head and causing even bigger problems. So we need to stop running away from them. Why can’t we just face them there and then? If you face your problem there and then, you are spending less time focused on it. You won’t end up losing sleep and having a panic attack because of a tiny problem you decided to run away from. Face them.
Being Your Own Enemy
I will admit that I am my own worst enemy. I am more critical on myself than anyone else. Sometimes this can be a good thing but then sometimes this can make your life terrible. You spend more time worry about yourself and bringing yourself down. There are plenty of people in the world who are going to bring you down. You need to be your own best friend and bring yourself up. Yes, this can be very difficult. Instead of standing there judging yourself. Do something! You are the only person who can improve you so you should not be bringing yourself down. Find something you don’t like about yourself. Whether it be your body or you mind. Start making a change. Not happy with your hair, have it cut. Not happy with your skin, see somebody. Hate your body, find a way to make it the way you want it. I’m all for loving yourself and being happy about the way you look, but it is only you who can make yourself happy. Whether this means changing something or not.
Taking Things For Granted
This is a bit of a mix. This could be whether you are taking yourself for granted or taking what you have for granted. We all wish we had more and forget what we do have. From time to time it is always good to sit back and look around. Look at what you are surrounded by and what you have got instead of worrying about those things you cannot afford or wish you had. You shouldn’t just focus on the things you own, but the people you have around you. Look at those who love you and who are there for you.
