A lot of people ( including myself) speak a lot about mental health, but self care shouldn’t just be done by those who suffer with mental health. Self-care is used to help people stay healthy, it can be physically or mentally. I’ve decided to start sharing different ways that you can start practicing self care by regularly posting new techniques that can be used to do so. I am starting off with five ways to practice self care for the mind.
Go On An Adventure
This is probably a weird one to start with but also the most fun. This is one that can be done on your own or with other people. Do something that you’ve always wanted to do or something you’ve always enjoyed doing. This could be as simple as going on a hike or jumping onto a rollercoaster. These are the kind of things that help to clear the mind and also bring it positivity!
This is something we all do on a daily basis. Whether we are at home or work, we tend to do more than one thing at a time just because it is quicker. Unfortunately though we are just putting more stress on ourselves by doing so. Just take a step back and choose one thing to do at a time and focus on that one thing. It may take a little bit longer but think at how much less stress you are putting yourself under and how much better you are probably doing each task just by focusing on that.
Write a Journal
This is one that I struggle with, I either forget to write in it or just feel like I am repeating myself. You do not have to write in your journal everyday. It could be every week or even every month. They are there to help you sit and reflect. Reflecting back every now and again gives you the chance to get everything off your chest. This means that you will not have to keep thinking back on the what ifs. You just reflect that one time and leave it at that.
Read A Book
Shutting off your mind and jumping into somebody else’s world is always a good way to switch off by focusing your mind to something else. You don’t just have to read a fiction book but any kind of book that will grab your attention is good. It is always a good idea to open up a book and get reading.
Put Time Into Your Hobbies
Most people have hobbies, if you don’t then I suggest you find one. Hobbies are always a good source of self-care. Do something that you enjoy and something that has a positive impact on your mind. This can be as simple as gardening or even colouring. My favourite hobby is crocheting but I also just enjoy simple thing like an adult colouring book.
